There was an increase in the number of orphaned children, who are now estimated to be 140,000out of a population of 2million.  The HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country has reduced the average life expectancy by almost 20 years. 15 per cent of the population is HIV positive, with infection rates higher among women than men. Recent statistics indicate that Omusati region has become the second highly HIV/AIDS affected area with 27% after the Caprivi with 30%.

As from 2011 FFF will devote much of its attention to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS in Namibia. A huge impact was made through the work of non-governmental AIDS organizations in Namibia during the reporting period. The partnership of Global Fund which was the major funding partner for many of the HIV/AIDS activities was of importance.
